Scientist/Senior Scientist, Molecular Sciences - AbSci

AbSci’s technology supports production of both novel and existing biologics, acceleration of drug discovery timelines, and increased efficiency and flexibility throughout the manufacturing process.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Scientist/Senior Scientist, under the direction of the Director, Molecular Sciences, will help to drive further development and utilization of AbSci’s proprietary E. coli expression platform. Primary responsibilities will include molecular biology and strain engineering in support of AbSci’s platform technology.  The ideal candidate will have extensive industry experience successfully implementing cutting-edge molecular biology techniques to perform gene cloning, library construction, and genome engineering.  The candidate is also passionate about science, applies a creative approach to problem-solving, exhibits strong communication skills, and can execute nimbly and efficiently in a dynamic startup environment.  This position may include supervisory responsibilities of lab assistants and research associates.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • BS or MS degree in a related scientific discipline with 5-10 years of research experience in an industry environment, or a PhD with 3+ years of industry experience
  • Extensive practical experience with multiple DNA cloning methods
  • Prior experience with directed evolution or protein engineering
  • Experience with high-throughput workflows and complex data sets
  • Background in heterologous protein expression
  • Appreciation for assay development and optimization
  • Specific experience with automated colony picking (QPix, Molecular Devices) and/or liquid handling is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in applicable areas
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience developing and optimizing protocols and techniques
  • Documents experimental results in an up-to-date electronic lab notebook system
