Senior Scientist, Protein Purification

Job Summary: The Senior Scientist, under direction of senior management, will play a significant role in the characterization of proteins expressed using AbSci’s proprietary E. coli expression platform. Core responsibilities include development of novel techniques for protein purification and characterization, communicating experimental results to management, and providing guidance to other scientists within the organization. This position may include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications: PhD in Life Sciences or related field, and 5-8 years related experience; may include postdoctoral experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated expertise in development of downstream purification processes along with HPLC assays. Applied knowledge of protein-protein interaction and general protein biochemistry.  Excellent interpersonal communication, problem solving, and leadership skills. Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Responsible for the development of downstream purification for our lead insulin molecules
  • Provides protein purification support for internal functional groups
  • Performs data analysis of scientific results and presents to management and members of scientific groups
  • Familiarity with high-throughput analytical techniques and data analysis
  • Performs, either directly, or in a supervisory role, laboratory tests to advance ongoing research projects
  • Troubleshoots unexpected experimental outcomes
  • Documents experimental results and maintains an up-to-date electronic lab notebook
  • Observes and complies with all safety standards and procedures
